NOBU HONOLULU'S STRIKING YAKISUGI WALLS

WCIT Architecture commissioned us to craft unique shiplap Yakisugi panels for Nobu Honolulu. This was back when Michael was overseeing production at Winkler Woods.

The challenge? Create jet-black, textured panels through the traditional Japanese technique of torching Sugi wood (Yakisugi). These panels needed to be visually stunning and practical – absolutely no charcoal transfer allowed.

This project pushed our boundaries, but we were thrilled with the results. Explore the photos to uncover the fascinating process behind these remarkable walls.

Sushi Sho's Elegant Sushi Platters & Utensils: A Blend of Design & Tradition

Sushi Sho, an award-winning restaurant nestled within the Ritz Carlton Waikiki, offers a truly exceptional dining experience. Not only does it boast stunning architecture (recognized with the 2018 Architectural Award of Merit), but it also serves some of Hawaii's finest sushi.

We're proud to have played a small role in enhancing this culinary journey. During Michael's time at Winkler Woods, he crafted unique sushi platters (oke), chopstick rests (hashioki), and oshibori holders, all using a beautiful blend of Hawaiian koa, milo, and monkey pod woods. These handcrafted pieces seamlessly blend with Sushi Sho's ambiance, adding a touch of local artistry and tradition to each dining experience.
